On February
2nd, 1955 the church was presented with the plans for the auditorium,
which were accepted. Work was started in April 1955. The construction
progressed rapidly and the conerstone was laid on May 29th, 1955. The new
auditorium was dedicated
on October 9th, 1955.
The church also
participated in a Simultaneous Revival in April 1955 with Bro. Bill Thompson of North Carolina as the
evangelist. Thirteen members were added this revival bringing the total
membership to 155 and enrollment of Sunday School was 187. More revivals were
held in October 1955 with Bro. Elvin Clark and another in April 1956 with Bro.
Joe Tackett.
In September 1956,
Piner Baptist Church hosted the North Bend
Associational Meeting. Bro. Robert Wilson resigned and the church called Bro.
O.J. Steger as interim pastor. Bro. Robert Shetler of Hyden Baptist Church was
called to be pastor and began in January 1957. A revival was held in April 1957.
Piner Baptist Church had previously licensed Bro. Wayne Price and he was ordained to the ministry at First
Baptist Church in Williamsburg , Ky. in November 1957.
Bro. Shetler resigned in January 1959. By March 1959 Bro. Eugene Allen of
Henderson , Ky. was called as pastor. Bro. Dillard West
led the spring revival of 1959. Bro. Kenneth Boster led the fall revival of
1960. Bro. Eugene
Allen resigned in April 1961 and Bro. Claude Boozer was called as
interim pastor and served until July 1961.
In June 1961 Bro.
Clifford Revell of Rome , Ga. was called as pastor. Mrs. Sue Revell was
very active with the choir and several cantatas were held. Bro. Revell resigned
in July 1963 to assume the pastorate of Longview Baptist Church in Mississippi .
In August 1963 Bro. Ben
Hubbard of Mackville , Ky. was called to be pastor. The church voted
to incorporate in August 1964. The church adopted the Articles of Incorporation
by September of 1964. Bro. Hubbard resigned in April of 1967 to become pastor of
West
Covington Baptist Church . Walter Shinkle became interim
pastor until November 1967.
In October 1967 Bro.
Fred Livingood of Crittenden
,
Ky. was called to be pastor. Bro.
Livingood resigned in July 1971. Sunday School was averaging 117 during this
time.
Brother Robert Shetler
was called to be pastor for the second time at Piner Baptist Church in September
1971. In March 1972 the church voted to purchase the present parsonage and sell
the old parsonage. In November 1972, Dr. Grover Tyner was back home from the
mission field in the Philippines and led the revival.
Jerry
Delaney was called to become a part time youth worker in June 1973 and served
until December 1974.
In April 1974 the
church voted to fund a cassette library at the Philippine Baptist Theological
Seminary of which our first pastor, Dr. Grover Tyner, was president. In
October 1974, Piner Baptist church licensed Nelson Lee Webb to the gospel
ministry.
In April 1975 Bro.
Shetler resigned as pastor. Bro. Thomas Shelton
of
Falmouth , Ky. was called to be pastor in September 1975.
In November 1975 the church presented a gift to Dr. and Mrs. Beighle on their
departure for the mission field in Ethiopia .
In July 1976 former pastor Bro. Robert
Wilson came to speak at
Piner
Baptist Church ’s 24th anniversary and the 200th
anniversary of our country.
